The Region

Les Brugues nestles in S.W. France. Arguably one of the most beautiful regions of rural France, our property is in the Dordogne, Department 24. Situated in the heart of the Bastide country; rural, tranquil, yet only minutes away from shops, restaurants and all the recreational facilities any holiday maker could wish for. Between Bergerac and Cahors lies a swathe of countryside steeped in history and culture - the fascinating bastide towns of Monpazier, Monflanquin, Villereal and Beaumont are only a short distance away. Less than one hours drive will take you to Sarlat, Rocamadour, Domme and through the delightful valley of the Dordogne.  For outdoor enthusiasts "Les Brugues" gives  direct access to miles of woodland and countryside for cycling and walking.  Horse riding, tennis, swimming, golf, fishing, canoeing are all within easy reach.

For gastronomes the region is a veritable paradise! Excellent restaurants abound (in every price bracket).  Local markets offer superb fresh produce and specialties of the region (foie gras, duck, truffles etc) are available on a daily basis.  Wine lovers may find themselves literally dizzy with choice, spoiled by the abundant,  excellent ( and cheap!) regional wines of Bergerac, Cahors, Bordeaux and Monbazillac.

"Should it all end tomorrow - with a slice of foie gras and a glass of Monbazillac, I will not have lived in vain!"
